Ako Mismo: Patriotism Through Commercialism

Have we as a nation become so ignorant that we can no longer differentiate activism from commercialism? Are we that dumb that we openly embrace this ploy by the corporate world to relieve us of our hard earned cash? Sadly, the answer I think is yes.

I for one doesn't have, and will never wear one of those dog tags. I refuse to believe that people behind this project are sincere and doesn't have any ulterior motives. Because if they were ( sincere that is ), they wouldn't be selling those dog tags but would have given them for free instead. I do believe that real change must first come from within. But in this scheme, the entities behind this project doesn't just want change, but also our paper bills. And with the help of the local media, they have turned patriotism into a very profitable business. I wonder what they would think of next in the coming months?

As for me, I don't need a dog tag or a shirt with the Philippine flag/archipelago on it to be patriotic. All I need to do is care.
